South West London producer and DJ Mark Pember, better known as Meat Katie, moves between techno, breakbeat and progressive sounds with a distinctive, uncompromising approach. His releases span labels including Wall of Sound, R&S, Bedrock, Perfecto, Renaissance and Skint, alongside collaborations and remixes involving artists such as Arthur Baker, U.N.K.L.E., Deep Dish, James Zabiela and D-Nox & Beckers.

His artist albums include Off the Bone (1998), Long to Belong (2000) and Vibrator (2006). Behind the decks, his technical ability, versatility and instinct for the room have taken him to dancefloors around the world, with residencies at Fabric Live and Dangerous Drums at Berlin’s Tresor forming part of his story.

Together with Dylan Rhymes, Pember co-founded LOT49, the influential label he ran from 2004 to 2015. Its catalogue brought together established names and emerging artists, with a willingness to experiment that reflected his own musical outlook.

Lowering the Tone began as a podcast in 2013, pairing underground electronic music with conversations with DJs, producers and industry figures. The label followed in 2016, extending that independent spirit across techno, breakbeat and progressive music.
